Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 20, 2026. Some states (Washington, Nevada, Connecticut among them) give people rights over information that can identify their health status or health-related activity, and require a separate notice about it. This is that notice. The general Privacy Policy covers everything else.

What consumer health data Guide.md collects

  • Appointment requests. When you ask for an appointment through a provider’s profile: your name, phone, email, whether you are a new or existing patient, the reason for the visit, preferred times and insurance.
  • Search terms. A search for a condition, symptom, procedure or specialty is processed to answer it. The text is not stored in our database; the address of the search page, which contains the terms, appears in web-server logs that are overwritten in a rolling buffer, and in Google Analytics page records.

Guide.md does not collect medical records, diagnoses, prescriptions, biometric data or precise geolocation, and does not infer health conditions about you from your use of the site.

Why it is collected and how it is used

  • An appointment request is used for one thing: delivering it to the practice you chose, and showing that practice the request on its own account page. Guide.md does not read it for any other purpose.
  • Search terms are used to return results, keep the site secure and diagnose problems.

Who receives it

  • The practice you asked for an appointment with, by email and on its Guide.md account page.
  • The companies that run our email delivery, hosting and analytics, only to provide those services (listed on Service Providers).
  • A third-party AI service receives an unusual search’s text so it can be interpreted (see the Privacy Policy, section 7).
  • Nobody else. Guide.md does not sell consumer health data, does not share it for advertising, and does not use it to build audiences.

How long it is kept

  • Appointment requests: 180 days after they are sent, then deleted automatically. The practice you sent it to keeps its own copy under its own policies.
  • Search terms: not stored by us beyond the rolling server log and analytics page records described above; a cached interpretation of an unusual search is kept for up to 30 days, keyed by a hash, without the text.

Your rights

You may ask what consumer health data we hold about you, ask us to delete it, or withdraw consent for its use, by choosing Privacy request on the Contact page or emailing [email protected]. We answer within 45 days. If we decline, you may appeal by choosing Privacy appeal; if the appeal is denied you may contact your state attorney general. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.

Deleting an appointment request from Guide.md does not delete the copy the practice received.
