Your website is no longer the only page patients read.

A patient can ask a search engine or AI assistant about your training, specialty, reviews, hospital affiliation, languages, location, or whether you treat a particular condition. The answer may be assembled from sources you have never reviewed.
The risk is not that AI invented the idea of a professional identity. The risk is that it makes old fragments easier to summarize.
Your online identity is a source problem
Most physicians appear across:

Minutes 0 to 5: Search like a patient
Search your full name with your specialty and city. Then ask a mainstream AI assistant the same basic question.
Do not focus on praise or criticism. Record the facts it presents.
Minutes 5 to 10: Check identity
Are the name, credentials, specialty, location, and practice correct? Does the answer confuse you with another physician?
Minutes 10 to 15: Check access
Is the phone correct? Does the website work? Are office hours and accepting-patient status confirmed?
Minutes 15 to 20: Check authority
Which sources appear to support the answer? Is the practice website current? Is the hospital page current? Is the public professional record current?
Minutes 20 to 25: Correct the source
Fix the record closest to the fact. Update the practice page, Google Business Profile, NPPES, or relevant institutional profile before chasing secondary directories.
Minutes 25 to 30: Create one maintained profile
Claim Guide.md or another profile you will actually maintain. Add the core facts, a clear biography, authoritative links, and a next step.
What not to do
Do not fill the web with copied biographies. Do not buy vague “AI ranking” promises. Do not add unsupported superlatives. Do not treat a completeness score as a quality score.
The goal is not to sound important. It is to reduce the distance between the real physician and the version a patient sees.
